Origin of the Canada Legacy Honours

The Canada Legacy Honours was created to address a national need — a prestigious platform that recognizes not just accomplishments, but transformational leadership and legacy building in Canada and beyond.

Launched, this groundbreaking initiative was envisioned to become a defining stage for celebrating excellence across generations — recognizing those who shape the culture, values, and future of the nation through service, innovation, and courage.

Born out of purpose and pride, the awards align with the spirit of Canada Day, reflecting a country built on diversity, inclusion, and global citizenship.

Founders: YYWC & AWLO Canada

Yes Youth and Women Can (YYWC) is a nationally recognized nonprofit based in Toronto, committed to empowering women and youth through leadership development, entrepreneurship, education, and community engagement.

AWLO Canada, the Canadian chapter of the African Women in Leadership Organisation, is a global force in advancing the voice, visibility, and impact of African women leaders across sectors.

Together, these two organizations unite their global reach and community-driven purpose to establish a world-class legacy recognition platform unlike anything Canada has seen before.

Our Mission

To recognize and honor women, youth, corporate leaders, public servants, innovators, and advocates who embody Canadian values through outstanding leadership and lifelong impact.

Our Vision

To position the Canada Legacy Honors as the nation’s most prestigious award platform — elevating individuals and institutions that represent the best of Canada to the world.

Why Canada Day?

Canada Day is a moment of national pride, remembrance, and hope for the future. It’s a time when the country reflects on its values — unity, service, peace, progress. By hosting the Canada Legacy Honors during this symbolic week, we place our honorees at the center of that national narrative.
